The Idol of Eirræbœ is a schizomeme and paranormal creepypasta about an upside-down green pyramid said to descend from the sky, kicked off by a March 2023 iFunny video that reread a SpongeBob SquarePants animation glitch as an omen. The lore grew through iFunny reposts, a viral TikTok edit and a YouTube cult video, and by November 2023 X users were sharing faceless, Slender Man style photo edits captioned about the idol's arrival.

Overview

Posts about The Idol of Eirræbœ, also written Eirraeboe and sometimes called The Arrival of Eirræbœ, blend pseudo-mystical captions with glitchy cartoon footage to sell the premise that an entity marked by Anglo-Saxon style glyphs is coming to strip three senses from anyone affected by it1. A typical video combines a looping SpongeBob or similar clip with ominous overlaid text naming the green idol, Ythorn, or the Sólarenglar, written in a mock-liturgical tone5.

The lore built up across platforms through small additions by different posters rather than one unified canon, which is why fans and KYM call it a schizomeme4. Later entries moved away from cartoon glitches toward photo edits in which real people's faces are scrubbed out in the style of Slender Man imagery, usually captioned as evidence that the idol had reached them6.

On March 14th, 2023, iFunny user @ItsYaBoiSneaks posted a short video of a SpongeBob SquarePants scene containing an animation error that briefly made Patrick's face disappear1. The caption presented the glitch as proof of the impending "arrival of Eirræbœ," an event that would leave viewers "completely stripped from 3 of their senses," and labeled a green object in the frame "The idol of Eirræbœ," said to be engraved with Anglo-Saxon glyphs1. Over the following eight months the post picked up roughly 1,400 smiles on iFunny4.

How It Spread

On March 27th, 2023, TikToker @dvttez reposted the SpongeBob clip with the audio swapped, and this version grew well past the iFunny original, drawing around 224,100 plays and 33,600 likes over the next eight months2. On April 15th, 2023, YouTuber aftonny uploaded a video titled "THE SUPREME CULT OF EIRRÆBŒ" that stretched the lore outward, tying the idol to Illuminati iconography; the upload sat near 2,400 views seven months later3.

iFunny stayed central to the growing mythology. On June 19th, 2023, iFunny user @TheEirraeboeWitness introduced two new figures into the canon, Ythorn and the Sólarenglar, in a post that drew 241 smiles over five months5. By late 2023 the aesthetic reached Twitter / X in the form of faceless portrait edits inspired by Slender Man.

On November 9th, 2023, X user @Thafnine posted a photo of the Built By Gamers Podcast hosts with their faces wiped away, which drew about 29,000 likes within three weeks6.
