Camavinga Memes are TikTok videos and photo edits joking that French Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga can play any position on the pitch, and by extension solve any problem. The format took off in August 2023, powered by a sped-up snippet of Vegedream's 'Merci les bleus' and a viral clip of Camavinga playing goalkeeper on his Instagram story23.

Overview

Camavinga Memes are a wave of TikTok videos and photo edits built around the running joke that Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga can play literally every position, on the pitch or off it1. Because coach Carlo Ancelotti had genuinely lined him up at center back, left back and left wing in a single match, fans stretched the bit until it covered goalkeeper, striker and non-football jobs like doctor, chef or firefighter2.

The visual template is simple: a photoshopped or edited image of Camavinga in an unexpected role, or a clip cut to a sped-up snippet of Vegedream's 'Merci les bleus,' the 2018 track re-adopted by French fans that became the unofficial 'Camavinga song' on TikTok4.

The joke's seed post came on May 27th, 2023, when X user @YashRMFC quote-tweeted a stat noting Camavinga had played three different positions in one Real Madrid match, adding a crude photoshop of him in goalkeeper kit with the caption 'Hear me out.' The edit picked up roughly 28,200 likes over three months1.

On July 5th, 2023, X user @neoater posted a screen recording pulled from Camavinga's own Instagram story showing him keeping goal in a backyard kickabout, captioned 'camavinga took "he can play any position" way too seriously'2. @YashRMFC reposted the clip the same day and racked up around 25,200 likes in a month, turning the running gag into a shared reference point3.

How It Spread

The format jumped to TikTok in August 2023 through creator @kx.rxm, also known as ♕Bellingham♕, who uploaded an early edit using an original sound that has since been removed from the platform5. That first video was deleted, but the sound stayed in circulation long enough for other TikTokers to pile on with their own Camavinga-can-do-anything edits6.

The audio itself was a sped-up cut of Vegedream's 'Merci les bleus,' a song originally written for the France national team's 2018 World Cup run and revived around the 2022 tournament4. On TikTok the track was rebranded in the comments as simply the 'Camavinga song,' and clips paired his face with everything from cooking videos to homework fixes7.

By late 2023 the format was still active enough that Real Madrid fan accounts and football meme pages were reposting compilations, keeping the goalkeeper Instagram clip in circulation as the canonical piece of source footage3.
