Painis Cupcake, also known as Penis Cupcake, is a fan-made Team Fortress 2 character built from a mangled Soldier model who deadpans 'I am Painis Cupcake. I will eat you' before cannibalizing his victims. Introduced in a January 2010 Garry's Mod clip by YouTuber RubberFruit, the sadistic Soldier grew into a cornerstone of TF2 fan animation, spawning Source Filmmaker sequels, pink spinoffs, and a lasting DeviantArt fandom.

Overview

Painis Cupcake, also spelled Penis Cupcake, uses the standard Team Fortress 2 Soldier model, usually shown twisted or broken, wearing an unnerving grin as he shuffles toward a target and eats them alive1. Every appearance repeats his signature introduction, delivered flat and cheerful in the Soldier's own voice, right before the cannibal payoff.

The line itself is a splice job. Fans stitched it together from real Soldier voice files in TF2, pulling the word 'painis' out of the taunt 'pain is weakness leaving the body' and pairing it with the taunt 'am I too violent for you, cupcake' to build the trademark greeting23. The result reads as a cursed voice-actor glitch, which is a big part of the joke.

He sits in the same corner of TF2 fandom as other fan-built horror Soldiers like the Vagineer, and shows up as a psychotic antagonist rather than a hero in almost every video he appears in4.

On January 9, 2010, YouTuber RubberFruit uploaded a short Garry's Mod clip called 'Painis Cupcake eats someone'1. In it, a broken Soldier model lies in a heap, snaps back together, crawls across the floor toward a Spy, delivers the 'I am Painis Cupcake' line with a wide smile, and eats him. The video passed 1.6 million views over the decade that followed4.

Other Garry's Mod animators picked up the character within months, filling out his personality as a psychotic, cannibalistic Soldier who treats every other class as food56.

How It Spread

The character moved from Garry's Mod into Source Filmmaker as SFM became the standard tool for TF2 fan animation, and animators kept treating him as a recurring cannibal villain78. YouTuber Kostamoinen's 'Meet Painis cupcake,' uploaded July 15, 2012, pulled over 1.6 million views and helped lock in the character's now-standard beats: the reassembly, the introduction, the meal9.

The biggest spinoff came from TheInvertedShadow, whose 'Never wake Pinkis Cupcake,' uploaded February 20, 2014, introduced a pink variant of the character and passed 17 million views, dwarfing the original clip10. Fan artists carried the character over to DeviantArt, where a large pool of Painis Cupcake fanart built up alongside the videos11.

Activity thinned out after 2014 but the character never fully died. On January 10, 2018, r/tf2 user u/airbiscuits posted a reminder that Painis Cupcake had turned eight, which drew over 470 upvotes12. In December 2020, r/tf2 user u/Skarlet-Raven's original Painis Cupcake artwork pulled more than 530 upvotes on the same subreddit13, and new SFM shorts from smaller creators kept dropping through the early 2020s6.
